WRAB Radio was founded and licensed as Brindlee Mountain’s first radio station in 1961 broadcasting at 1380 AM during daylight hours.
For over two decades, as the area’s only local radio station, WRAB provided news, information, announcements, weather, sports and a sounding board for the city and county government.
In tandem with the early broadcast of WRAB, the very popular “The Helping Hand” Show made its debut as a bulletin board, swap-shop and radio flea market offering goods and services by individuals as well as items to sell or trade.
Now in it’s sixth decade, the world-famous “The Helping Hand Show” is hosted by veteran announcer and the “Voice of Arab and Brindlee Mountain” – Archie Anderson. It airs Monday through Saturday at 9AM.
An Arab Tradition Since 1961
Anderson is a member of the Alabama Broadcasters “Hall of Fame” and the Marshall County Sports Hall of Fame.
WRAB added an FM counterpart in 2020 known as “W R A B-107” FM.
It simulcasts the Classic Country programming of AM 1380 with a broad range of the Greatest Country Hits of All Time. Located at 107.1 on the FM dial, it broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Besides ‘Archie’, WRAB Radio has been the home to many memorable personalities including Bobby King, Tim Maze, Cousin Jake, Big Jim Nelson, Chris Hanson, Steve Lemons, Kerry Franklin, Ken Henderson and Rick Stover as well as current Alabama Representative from District 27, Wes Kitchens.
Today, WRAB stands tall, proudly serving the people of Arab, Brindlee Mountain and surrounding areas and is the sports home of Brewer Patriot Football and Arab High School Boys and Girls Basketball.
The FUN Media Group of North Alabama purchased the station from Reed Broadcasting in 2020 continuing the “home grown/home owned” local radio.
